Review on πŸ–₯️ Acomdata Tango 2.5-Inch USB/eSATA Hard Drive Enclosure Kit in Obsidian Black (Model TNGXXXUSE-BLK) by Marc Stewart

USB 2.0 works fine. eSATA works fine but you need to buy a cable (not included).

Looks good. USB 2.0 works fine. eSATA works fine. After upgrading 3 laptops in the family to SSD, I have several 750GB 2.5" HD laptops. I also just received a new Netgear Nighthawk X4S R7800 router. It features 2 USB 3.0 ports and 1 eSATA port for connectivity. external hard drives. So I figured it would be a good idea to recycle unused hard drives. I bought a USB 3.0 enclosure and this one. This is mainly used to check the eSATA connection. When it arrived I was happy to say HD installation is easy. The case feels sturdy. There are 4 screws to attach my HD to the board which is in a slot to keep it from bouncing around. The top of the installed HD doesn't touch the case at all, so I feel like there's an air barrier in between to cool the HDD. I like it. The USB 2.0 connection with the supplied cable works great. My computer sees it with no problems, copies files back and forth. There are no problems here. No eSATA cable is included. I had to buy it separately. Did it for $5.99. So this setup now costs up to $15. When the eSATA cable came, I plugged it into my new router to use as a network drive via the eSATA connection. Due to my limited experience with eSATA, I realized that eSATA is useless. I had to use the micro USB connector on this case for power. NOW I understand why the eSATA cable is NOT included. Because if you include an eSATA cable, you would have to include a USB power adapter. and it probably won't cost $9 (I bought the blue one - the cheapest at $9). However, after getting some power, eSATA works great. I now have 3 separate network drives (2 to 2 USB 3.0 ports and 1 via eSATA port) from my Netgear Nighthawk R7800. I copied files back and forth to see the speed and was surprised to see that this enclosure copied FASTER than my other USB 3.0 drives (all drives are 750GB and 5400rpm). My average was 55-60MB/s, while my other two USB 3.0 hard drives - one in a different enclosure - were 50-55MB/s and my WD MyBook External was 53-58MB/s). Of course the difference was tiny. I was just surprised that it was faster (albeit slightly) than USB 3.0. In general I am satisfied with them. Let's see how long this lasts. I now have 2 hard drives on my router for backup and this serves as a media server. The only reason it has 4 stars is because I have to buy the eSATA cable separately. Without this cable, it should be advertised as "eSATA capable" and not just eSATA. So if you want to use it as an eSATA drive, note that you need to buy a cable separately. I found $6 for a 3 foot cable. This is the cheapest shipping on Amazon with a basic membership.
