Review on Parker 68S Stainless Steel Handle Safety Razor - Double Edge, Open Comb Head Design with 5 Blades by Laurie Garcia

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Five Stars for Several Reasons

This Parker Double Edge safety razor deserves five stars in my opinion for several reasons: 1.) It's made of durable components with a beautiful finish; 2.) it's heavy, which means it's well balanced to allow for a close shave without having to apply pressure; 3.) It is very easy to use and easy to disassemble, clean and reassemble. IT JUST WORKS simple and safe. After three shaves I haven't even cut myself, let alone cut my face - no, no cuts, no cuts. If you look closely you will notice that the razor blade fits snugly against the bottom plate, the one with the comb; Since there is no gap under the blade, you are unlikely to cut yourself. My other Parker razor is the long handle butterfly razor model 96R (black handle version) and while I like the *look* of the 96R long handle a little more, the open comb 68S (currently under review) gives me the BBS rating. Shave ("Baby Butt Smooth" in wet razor lingo) with less stress and worry than the 96R. I believe the difference lies in the orientation of the blade versus the base plate. The 96R Butterfly Razor has a gap between the blade and the comb (actually it's more of a serrated rod than a real comb) where I once pinched some loose skin on my neck, resulting in a noticeable cut; With the 68S this is rather unlikely. Here's a TIP: To ensure the BBS shaves on the second or third pass, *loose* the screw an eighth (1/8) turn by turning the knob on the comb counterclockwise; This results in a flatter razor at a slightly higher angle to the skin, resulting in a MORE AGGRESSIVE shave. But here's a WARNING: only attempt this trick after you've shaved a few times with this razor and are comfortable enough considering its shape, angle, weight, etc. Heed the expert's advice: >>Never press<< too hard against your face; let the weight of the razor work its magic and often pull "short" strokes instead of long ones. Apply sandalwood shaving oil or a similar lubricant before lathering up the shaving cream and a block of alum after you've finished shaving. You'll feel like a million bucks and join the mini wet razor revolution that's throwing away your expensive cartridge blades!
