Review on ๐Ÿ  Finnex FugeRay Planted+ LED Aquarium Light with Moonlights - Clip-on Fixture by Melissa Marie

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent light, I would have liked more guarantees.

Short review:+Pros*Decent light output. I would say the light is good for medium light plants. *Good colour, *Fully adjustable neck *Good build/feel - Cons *Mounting bracket has a large edge into the aquarium (there may be gaping issues when using a full cap) *Noticeable heat output from control box *180 day warranty is shorter, than some competitors with similar performance. I chose the Finnex device as I suspected it could be better for plant growth and it came with the additional adjustment of only the blue LED. The unit is well constructed, there are no weak points or wobbly spots anywhere in either a framed or unframed tank, but the downside is that the mounting bracket has a large protrusion into the aquarium which can cause problems when using a full cap. In addition, the adjustment screw is located inside the aquarium. The light control switch is also housed in this bracket. The device has a 59 inch power cord which is more than adequate for my needs. The light uses a 3-position manual switch. You can choose: * Full light -- Turn on all LEDs (red, white, and blue) * Blue LEDs only * Off. (Note that you can't just turn on the red LEDs.) You can use this light with a timer though, you can't switch between lighting modes with a timer. The color of the light seems closer to natural sunlight than the greenish color I got from the 6500K fluorescent tubes I've used in the past. The light output is brighter than I would have expected from a 5W bulb. I installed this light in a 10" deep aquarium and it sends quite a bit of light straight down to the bottom. That being said, the light output is probably best suited to medium-sized plants. I've been using the lamp for a few weeks now and it works great. I'm using this over a closed tank so can't comment on the water resistance of the light, but I can tell you that plants grow really well: algae will grow too if you're not careful. While using the flashlight I noticed a moderate amount of heat coming from the control box and I have concerns about premature failure (the short warranty only adds to that concern) but hopefully this won't be an issue. Overall, this flashlight works well. Well, so far I'm happy with them. At the moment I give it 4 stars (because of the shorter warranty compared to its competitors). I will update this review after spending more time with this light. I'd like to see how it performs over the long term and then update this review accordingly.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
