After charging the receiver and testing the system at a short distance, I installed it in the driveway at chest height, placing the sensor and receiver side by side there would be no communication between them have a meaning. I waved my hand in front of the sensor and the receiver rang. I walked back about 20 feet, waved my arms, walked around - nothing. I started walking towards the sensor and at about 8' it went off. I took a step back, waited for the reboot, waved my hands, nothing. I pointed the sensor 90 degrees in the other direction, repeated the test above and got the same results. He didn't work past 8'. This is much less than the minimum distance it has to work at. The sensor is set to maximum and I've tried it with the sensor on and off. I tried it first with the batteries in the receiver and then plugged it into an outlet. Most other reviewers have no complaints. Maybe they set it to 8 feet or less. I can only report what happened to me. Even if I could get this to work I would have complaints about the speed at which the receiver consumes 3 AA batteries. The instructions say they will take about 2 days and it is recommended that you only use the receiver when it is connected to the network.
