Seller and manual said it would work for cars too but I think it's better for other uses. I tried it on my machine and the effect was minimal. I don't think that's enough to deter a serious car robber. And the remote control wasn't what I thought it would be. The instructions I received said to insert the battery with what looked like a flathead screwdriver, but this remote doesn't do that and the battery was already in it. I wanted a remote that would alert me to problems with my car, but that remote doesn't exist. I think this alarm might work better on a bike or something similar to deter a thief. Edit: too late to send back. I went to my car, opened the door and the alarm didn't work. That doesn't work for me, so I'm looking for something more reliable with a remote that will warn me of theft.
