Review on EGO Power Lithium Ion Standard Equipment by Seth Wood

No guarantee

I have five different sized Ego batteries that I have owned for three to five years. In general I like the products, both tools and batteries. Woe to you, however, if you have problems. My oldest battery had a problem. And the story is this: day 1.45 minutes on hold. Select a call back "when a representative arrives". No callback. Day 4.75 minutes on hold. They asked for a serial number. They said yes they registered two batteries of 2.5 hours but the serial numbers are invalid, I must have made a typo when checking in so sorry! no guarantee! I have referenced (a) my valid warranty receipt email and (b) the listing on their website with the correct serial number right there. Then I was told that the warranty had expired. Strange that the registered date of purchase is two months before the date of manufacture stamped on the battery case. Finally, I was told the battery warranty is three years, not five. Play, install and select. The ego wins, I lose. While I'm sad I didn't get a replacement, three years is right and I'm only SOL. But the customer service sucks and the fact that they tried to dodge claims. Lying about serial numbers and purchase dates looks like organizational policy, not misrepresentation. So yes, great product (five batteries, five years, one failure) but one star for subsequent customer service.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • Boring packaging
