REVIEW UPDATED: March 2020

Review updated: Eufy Support contacted me to resolve the issues I raised in my review and sent them via Email sent to support. I reinstalled the doorbell camera after the firmware update. I moved the camera but due to the cutout in the door the infrared lamps create poor glare from adjacent walls at night. This is noted as possible in the installation guide, so I turned it off at night and the footage is still visible. I have upgraded my rating from 2 to 3 stars as I have installed Eufy Battery Doorbell Camera in the last 2. The weeks have been good for my family although they still have some minor issues listed below. There is no way to get a 3.5 star rating, which I believe is an accurate rating. The camera works well and it helps a lot to get push notifications when family members return home or a package is delivered. While the doorbell accurately detects movement within a certain range and human shapes (as evidenced by its flashing when approached), I get a snooze notification on my phone once I've already entered my house. Tested on both WIFI and LTE connection. The delay is about 8-10 seconds after the doorbell reports motion detection. Video recording is still limited to 15 fps even after a firmware update. This isn't a problem, but it does cause frame dropouts when someone is moving quickly. For example, there was a parcel delivery at my house and the camera showed the top of the courier's hat as he bent down to set the box down (the frame fell out) and then his back as he left. Beta, this is useless. Eufy Battery doorbell camera video streams are delayed by more than 30 seconds compared to live view and what you see on Chromecast/Nest Hub. ---- First review: Unfortunately, the Eufy wireless doorbell takes one step forward, two steps back. The video quality is just about acceptable, I'm not sure what the exact frame rate is, but it appears to be 15 fps, even in broad daylight the footage is pixelated. This model does not have a 3-second pre-recording function as it is battery operated and does not record continuously. For some strange reason, even though the doorbell has the ability to connect, you can't have a persistent entry that would allow for a 3 second recording. This is a step backwards from the wired doorbell with this setting. Two-way audio is a mess right now with serious communication delays. And the recorded footage loses audio when you have a two-way chat. Some of the issues, or more than minor complaints, are advertised features that don't work properly. I really wanted to like it, especially with Base 2 included and without a subscription, but unfortunately I don't want to buy a product right now, especially a security product, and am crossing my fingers that a future firmware update might fix the issues.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
