I have an older dog and have tried vests and coats in the past. You know, the ones with velcro or just a button or two around the chest. This is a small pit bull but very broad in chest and shoulders. All previous vests or jackets were too tight under the armpits (and wouldn't close properly) or they would fall off after unbuttoning or velcro during simple walking. I didn't think too much about a vest or jacket before, but every year he feels the cold air more and more. I go to work at 5:30 in the morning. At this time of the day it is cold, the ground is covered with frost and the sun does not warm the air. This year, at 20-30 degrees, he started shaking and I want him to be comfortable. I came across this one while looking for dog coats. I did NOT measure his chest but used the information in the description as a guide. (I would recommend getting your dog measured, I think I got really lucky with the size with my guess). I received a size 32 (which is one size smaller than the dog in the photo/description). Even with the description that if moved 4 inches, the 34 inches shown on this dog would have drowned my dog. Without the chest, the legs would be too long. Coat 32 on my short dog falls to about 1.5 inches off the floor. The bolts close, stay closed and he has freedom of movement. The only downside, if any, is that the hood is so big that it covers his entire head (and his head is quite large). , I can snap it open (there is a snap on the jacket/hood to keep the hood off the dog's head) and pull it far enough over the ears it has protection for them. I tuck in the other leg and snap it in place. The length goes to the tail and it is completely closed. On my day off it was 30 degrees outside. I put it on and he went for a walk for half an hour. Instead of going out, mind your own business and come right back. yy, i'm happy. I would recommend (with the caveat that you need to measure the chest and make adjustments in the description) and I would buy again for another pet or if this one becomes damaged/worn. Christine
