I was able to shorten the key at the dealer free of charge and avoid programming a transponder by using the transponder from the old key. Here's what you need to do, open the new key and take out the new transponder. Cut and peel a tiny piece of plastic to fit the transponder from your old key. Cover the new key with the cap with the old Honda logo and take it to the dealer to be cut free. The dealer will get rid of this if you bought the key from them and the only way they know is by the Honda logo on the key. I told them my wife bought it from another dealer but her key maker broke down and she was told the other dealer would cut it for free. Mission accomplished.
