Review on Venzo MTB Clipless Pedals with Shimano SPD Type Cleats SM-SH51 Compatibility - Easy Clip-in Mechanism for MTB Shoes by Jeff Callier

Squeaks and chirps endlessly. Tried twice, both the same.

I have a second set of these. These pedals have two noise issues that were completely unacceptable after about 30 miles of riding. One problem that was easily resolved was the repeated creaking that came from the rubber grommets covering the pedal pivots, preventing objects from entering the bearing area. A few drops of oil and the problem didn't recur. The deal breaker for me was that the spikes didn't fit well and kept chirping. When it first started on my second ride with these pedals, I thought it was a cardinal tweet. I thought it was funny that the cardinal followed me everywhere! No, they were pedals. First one, then the other. I isolated the noise from the cleat pedal connection. Tried adjusting the tension. Various types of lubrication help, but the noise always returns within 30 miles. I've also tried a thicker lube and it works better, but after about 60 miles I get intermittent chirping, less than before but still there and getting worse. I've been smearing after every ride (30 miles a day) but it seems unacceptably ridiculous. I returned the first set thinking maybe I just received a lemon. The second set did the same and will return as well. I paid a little more for a Shimano set so let's see how they perform. If they squeak too, I'll go back to the toe clips. Aside from the totally unacceptable noise these pedals made, they were great in every other way. However, do yourself a favor and spend a little more to get a bigger and better brand. Save time and nerves.

Pros
  • One year trial period
Cons
  • I won't say anything
