I have transported 2-4 bikes in the back of a camper trailer for several years and have never had a bumper. I use a receiver mount and an RV-approved bike rack. RV certification means the trunk and bikes are firmly attached and DO NOT MOVE. If you can grab your rack and wiggle it you've got a problem, own weight is one thing but your 100lb bikes get 3-400lbs when they start bouncing. Even something as simple as tying the wheels to the bumper with bungee or ratchet straps goes a long way when a new trunk is beyond your budget. In addition to the bike rack, my spare tire is also mounted on the bumper and I use the bumper as the first step to access my ladder. I'm really not overly concerned about my bumper dying, but with cross-country trips ahead and busy schedules on our route, this is cheap insurance and a lot cheaper than the bikes I carry around. I have a MIG welder and welding some gussets would be essentially free, but for the price it just wasn't worth taking the bumper off to do. The Winnebago TT has a C-profile frame that this kit fits on. The bottom bracket bolt is very close to the bottom of the C, but it works. To install, I clamped the bracket, marked the holes, removed the bracket, marked the centers of the holes with a center punch, drilled a pilot hole, and then drilled a 17/64" hole. The screws are self tapping (tapered) and as long as you start slow and keep them straight there is no problem. Allow about 45 minutes for the installation.
