Bought to fix an old Fasco bathroom wall fan. The old engine simply said 686 and nothing more. Presumably this is a replacement for this model (among others). It worked, but there were some minor issues. The motor doesn't spin like it should for my configuration. I had to disassemble the motor to change direction. I found a video on the internet showing how to do it. The fan blades on this unit are flatter than the old one, so I reused the old fan blade. I didn't think flatter blades would blow out so much air. Finally, the fan shaft is shorter than the old one. This results in the fan blades being farther from the fan shroud than the old ones. This motor is smaller/shorter than the old one, which also contributed. I think this results in less airflow due to more clearance around the fan. There could probably be a way to add a washer to the mounting bracket to close the gap, but I'm not sure it was worth the effort. It's still better than before because the Fasco motor wasn't even spinning (although it was getting power because I could hear the motor humming and vibrating when it was plugged in). Overall I am very happy with this purchase. Replacing the engine was much cheaper than replacing the entire assembly. I probably saved a lot of money too. I cringe when I think of how much a contractor would charge to install a brand new unit due to the labor involved (cutting a new square hole, at least).
