I don't know if I've had crappy cage nuts before, but they're pretty cool. I can use pliers to pinch the top/bottom of the "cage" and that squeezes the "fingers" together just enough for it to be rack mounted without special tools. It was a colossal struggle with my old cage nuts as I was too cheap to get a proper tool so I inserted the bottom pin first and then used a jeweler's flat head to lower the top and try to get it in to fit the hole. This usually results in the screwdriver slipping off and biting my hand lol. They are very easy to fit and the washers that come with them are far superior to those in my last set of cage nuts.
