Review on Pentek C1 20 Carbon Impregnated Cellulose Cartridge: Enhanced Filtration for Cleaner Water by Agustin Bush

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great filter! Better flow rate and longer life than the "standard " coconut shell carbon filters I have used

UPDATE: I would increase this to 10 stars if I could. I used the LAST SIX MONTHS as a test! Obviously this goes against the manufacturer's recommendations, but we've only had a "leak" with a chlorine smell/taste a few times in this time, and that was only when we were using large amounts of water outside (filling the paddling pools and watering ). ). This only lasted a few hours before the filter appeared to "catch up" as if recovering from overuse. And we use A LOT of water, and our Detroit water has A LOT of chlorine. I can't say that even after 6 months we noticed a reduction in consumption, unlike other filters we tried. So I STRONGLY recommend these filters and they are now available for auto-order at Revain. :) Decided to try these filters throughout our home having previously used coconut shell filters recommended by a local water treatment shop who installed them within 1 year. Both filters appeared to have almost the same flow rate at month 1 (at least close enough that there was no noticeable difference), but unlike the "standard" filters where the flow rate remained steady even past month 1 up to the 3rd month. where you couldn't shower while someone flushed the toilet, these Penteks show very little reduction in flow compared to when they were first installed. For me, that's a HUGE plus, and that's why I'll continue to use these filters. (Plus, it's 1/3 the cost on Amazon compared to buying it from this store.) So cons? Of course. The water in the canister turns black, but I haven't seen any black water coming out of the faucets, so nothing seems to hurt. But the old filters didn't do that. Another thing I noticed is that if you run a lot of water through this filter in a short amount of time (like filling a 250 gallon kiddy pool or watering your lawn a lot) there will be a slight smell of chlorine comes from the taps . Our city water has a VERY strong smell and taste of chlorine without this filter, so I'm not surprised. This filter just can't handle the sheer volume of water going through it, but that didn't bother me too much, especially considering the filter was already a few months old and even then it would wear itself out in a day or two with little recovered to no odor. . Although I have ordered a replacement from Revain and still plan to replace it soon as this final filter is nearing its 6 month lifespan. Money well spent!
