In the past, stabilizers were reserved for professionals only. A gyro stabilizer can cost you over $5,000, while a balanced steadicam costs about half that. Add microprocessors, accelerometers, and rare-earth brushless motors, and you get the same functionality for a few hundred dollars—really amazing.
