We bought this because after all the research we had done on playmats it felt like a 'healthier' version. It wasn't supposed to have any chemicals or chemical smells, but the smell was so strong when we opened it that we had to leave it outside for two days to air out, and it still smelled when we finally put it inside. Otherwise we like it.
