Review on 🐟 Seachem Purigen 2 Pack: Ultimate Water Purifier for Freshwater & Saltwater Aquariums by Jermale Bullion

Purigen was amazingly good at getting rid of excess tannin from driftwood in my 29 gallon fresh water tank and made the water crystal clear in a day or two. However, it is very expensive and the instructions are missing and/or wrong. First, make sure you rinse Purigen LOTS and then soak in Prime+ water before use. Otherwise, good luck with a cloudy tank full of loose purigen particles. Second, and most frustratingly, the process of "charging" is almost impossible without messing up your reservoir parameters. I've searched many forums on how to do this properly, but I still had to do 2 cycles of 50/50 bleach/water solutions before Purigen turned white again. Then soaked in solutions of 4 tbsp. per cup of Prime + water, twice. Then I finally decided it was good, rinsed thoroughly with water and then soaked in water + prime before putting the filters back in my aquarium. After a few minutes, my Gourami was acting lethargic and would sink to the bottom of the tank while trying to get oxygen from the top of the tank, but barely succeeding. I removed purigen from both tanks and they still smelled like bleach! It was only then that I saw a message from Seachem stating that you cannot use spill-free bleach and that you must use a neutral buffer solution after rinsing Prime. I give up, it all took a few days and now they want me to buy additional Seachem consumables to make it work. but then I use this product. As far as I know, it's only good for one use. And it's too expensive just for that purpose.
