New packaging appears to be defective, I received a package with only 3 sachets (yes Seachem accidentally put 2 Purigen sachets in one of the sachets). All three were poorly sealed and all the small balls fell apart. over my bed and floor. Literally all three leaked out of the center seam. Why change the packaging? Why "fix" something that isn't broken? In any case, I like the product in general. Just really embarrassed because of the bad packaging change. Update: I received the returned item…

Works great, the bag is fragile.

I bought this for my son's 20 gallon tank to replace other stuff in his filter. Overall it works great, with a few caveats. First you need to rinse Purigen well to get rid of the cloudiness. If you've ever washed rice, the concept is the same and it basically takes forever to get to the point where you declare it's good enough. That's not true, but the initial cloudiness in my tank disappeared in the morning, leaving crystal clear water. Another complaint I had was the bag itself. I was hoping…

Excellent goods! Great for removing tannins

Honestly I'm impressed with how well this stuff works. I put a large piece of mopani wood in my little 10 gallon tank and of course it turned the water into tea. Water changes didn't help much. Throw a bag in the filter and leave it on overnight and the next morning the water will be absolutely crystal clear. Highly recommended if you have problems with tannin in your aquarium! Edit: After about 2 weeks the bag turned dark brown and I figured it was time to recharge it. I found a few videos on…

Too expensive and difficult to regenerate, risky

Purigen was amazingly good at getting rid of excess tannin from driftwood in my 29 gallon fresh water tank and made the water crystal clear in a day or two. However, it is very expensive and the instructions are missing and/or wrong. First, make sure you rinse Purigen LOTS and then soak in Prime+ water before use. Otherwise, good luck with a cloudy tank full of loose purigen particles. Second, and most frustratingly, the process of "charging" is almost impossible without messing up your…

Purigen is magically good for fish and aquatic animals

As the name suggests; this thing is magic. I'm not a fan of chemical filtration unless you have a specific need for it. Activated charcoal is not needed in almost all situations, unless you are removing odors or medication. However, Purigen is an exception here; This material purifies water, removes tannins and retains dissolved organics like nothing else. If you've never used it before, this material is a very, very thin mesh bag full of tiny, tiny, SMALL white beads. You throw that bag in the
