It does what it says on the tin and keeps small fish out of the filter area of my AIO tank. I bought these for my IM 20 aquarium, unfortunately the company had to build them into the tanks, but this is an optional extra. It keeps small fish, shrimp and snails out of the filter area, but there are some downsides. enables the formation of a biofilm. I ended up taking a dremel and making the holes a little bigger, but not by much. This allowed for increased water flow and improved surface cleaning. They're not bad for the price, they don't let small fish through the filter section, but as I said, they do have a few downsides.
