I had a very large stack of loose balls and this product allowed me to wind them up very quickly. I've used it several times (one session lasted 2 hours) and never had any problems. The biggest problem I had wasn't even the yarn winder, it was my yarn ball! I would advise those having problems to make sure the guide (metal nozzle) is fully extended. This will engage this lever and keep the twine level with the center section. Also, those who have trouble with the yarn going under the holder and getting into the gears are probably making the ball too big. That maximum is 4-5 ounces, and as long as you're slowly approaching that maximum you should be able to stop before it goes into gear. I can't remember if the product description says the yarn should be slightly taut or not, but you must do that or the ball will become tangled and loose. Launching each Tangle also requires a bit of patience. , but once you start you'll fly straight through. I recommend Googling a video of someone using it as it explains how to set it up, how to "thread" it and get started.
