I bought this lens mainly because of the focal length and f/1.4 aperture, but in the end I was really surprised by the quality of the optics. Also wide open it is very sharp. Of course, the edges lose some of that sharpness, but it's barely noticeable unless you delve deep into the pixels. Turn it down a bit and it might be the sharpest lens I've ever used, damn good stuff. And the depth of field is silky smooth, I love the dreamy watercolor backgrounds this lens can create. what the lens needs. I've heard some people have issues with the focus calibration, but luckily mine worked right out of the box. It's a very large and heavy piece of glass, not to the point where it's uncomfortable to hold, but it definitely has a significant presence in the hands. Its fast aperture and long focal length make it ideal for street photography in low light conditions. I love the shots I can get using just pretty neon signs, warm streetlights and the tri-color menace of a changing traffic light. Lately I've been using the Sigma 24mm 1.4 lens for everything: it's great for portraits, product photography and landscapes. If this is within your budget and you don't already have a fast lens, I sincerely recommend adding one to your camera bag.
