I have been using Canon scanners for over 20 years. I've been waiting to update my Mac Pro to OSX 10.7.3 Lion (from OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard) due to compatibility issues between Photoshop (older versions) and Canon scanner. After buying a new Mac Pro a week ago, I was forced into Lion. I bought Photoshop CS5 but haven't upgraded my scanner from the CanoScan 8400f (a SUPER workhorse scanner!). The 8400f was dead in Lion as Canon no longer supports it with drivers/software. The Canon website has a list of scanners compatible with Lion. I ordered a used 8600f from an auction site. CS5 saw it BUT it was terribly slow and buggy causing 2/3 scans to fail. The Apple website has a list of scanners compatible with Lion, which does NOT include the 8600f. The list only includes 5600f and 9000f (and some Lide scanners). The difference between the Canon website and the Apple website is HUGE. Apple offers drivers/software for download and was updated FEBRUARY 2012. Canon last updated the drivers/software in OCTOBER 2011. Path. Installing the scanner is as simple as installing a download from Apple's website (throw away those outdated Canon discs) and plugging in power and USB. Reload. Download Photoshop and the 9000f and PS5 will automatically detect your scanner. Scanning is lightning fast and accurate. I am more than satisfied with the 9000f. My only regret is that I didn't purchase it in December 2011 when it was still available. This would save me the headache of finding solutions and compromises with other scanners.
