I am not a professional auto mechanic. Like many people, I don't want to run to the dealership or auto parts store every time the check engine light comes on. Since I have older machines, this happens more often. I borrowed an inexpensive reader from my friend, but all he does is give me the code and reset the check engine light. This launch reader is a big improvement over this one. It does everything the other tool does and more, but it also provides valuable on-screen information to help me understand the meaning of the codes so I don't have to run to my computer to search the web. The software is more complex than I need. It has a well-written 50-page online manual. You can find a link to it in many other posts. The connection cable is long enough that I can sit or stand next to the car without having to crouch on the floor to read the display. The reader software can be updated online. You need to install the application and connect the reader to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The update process was very easy, but you don't need to update the software to use this tool. However, I like the idea of updating the software so I can take advantage of future improvements when they become available.
