Latches are made of aluminium. What I find inadequate are the plastic clips that prevent these latches from opening. The plastic clips fit behind the aluminum hooks of the upper lock and are only clamped between the hook and the rubber bearing. I can easily see them popping out from behind the hook or breaking after repeatedly opening and closing the latch. The fact that they give you an extra pair of these clips seems to indicate a likely malfunction. Time will tell but these clips could easily be made from stainless steel with a flat mounting plate and bolted to the top locking hook.
