My birds hang around in the guest room and they don't have a cage and I will never get them one. But I wanted something that would serve as a safe and spacious vehicle to and from the vet clinic, as well as other times when they need to be taken somewhere. They are also very good in emergencies. ADVANTAGES (1) Very easy assembly and disassembly. 10 clips, which can be easily removed and reattached, connect the two halves of the device and can also be locked or unlocked for increased security. (2) The choice of bolts to reinforce the clamps during movement adds another layer of security. This is a must if you're traveling by plane, but for birds the clips will suffice and provide a super tight seal and connection. (3) A BIG plus are the wheels (removable and lockable). Also, it has 2 handles on the top. All boxes of this size, including Petmate's, lack both and are many times more expensive. (4) It has a mostly straight form factor. Other designs have curved sides that take up space and serve no purpose. (5) Good feeders that fit snugly against the metal. Each unit comes with 2. Comes with a certificate stating everything from the bowls to the unit is pet safe and non-toxic. I use my own non-toxic ceramic feeders but they fit very well in the provided feeders/drinkers so I use them as a support. (6) Suitable for carrying parrots, spacious and comfortable. Other crates, particularly Petmate's, have open holes in the plastic that allow birds to chew and play with them, so they're not ideal for parrots. I assume that dogs could chew on it too. This model doesn't have them, which eliminates the worry of a bird swallowing plastic. Finally plenty of space to hang my handmade wooden toys for them to chew on if they want. It also has very good air circulation. (7) Very durable and well made. Much better than Petmate's, even those of this size. The door only opens on one side but is very secure and can be made even more tamper-proof with locks. That's overkill for my purposes, very appropriate if you're traveling by plane. Also comes with "live animal" decals. CONS (1) Can't think of any. It's a bit heavy, but when you think about it, given the size of the device, it couldn't be lighter. Again, the two handles and wheels help a lot with transport.
