Construction: The meter is small, compact and fits easily in one hand. The underside is covered with a grippy, rubber-like material for easy one-handed use. It takes a little force to pop out the cap, but you don't run the risk of hitting the pins as there are 2 tiny rubber caps for the pins. The screen is small but well backlit and easy to read. I like the carry case, it's easy to carry and protected. Calibration: Calibration of this meter is very easy. The screen shows the temperature and you press the right button to choose from 16 different types of wood. By selecting tree "A" remove the lid which has 2 small holes to put pins in and take measurements. This allows you to calibrate the meter without an external device or tree, which is very convenient. Feature: First, the sensor is VERY sensitive. The gauge responds instantly, even if you're barely touching anything with the pens, and updates up and down very quickly. You don't have to drive the pin too deep into the wood to get an accurate reading, just enough for the gauge to set the value. You can then "freeze" the reading in place to take a closer look at the reading without the needle being in the tree. Overall I am very happy with this meter. I have checked the wood in my garage as well as the new siding on my house and have never used a moisture meter before. The instructions are clear and the device is very user-friendly.
