I use these for heating things like Chili, soup, and similar items. I have boiled water in them just to see how hot the bowl gets and on one I walked off to do something else and the water was at a Rolling Boil. When I removed the bowl it was warm to the touch slowly getting hotter from the water not the microwave oven. These things are excellent for this purpose. There is one big draw back though. These bowls quickly get stained from the foods in them. After one round of Chili they had a big dark red ring inside that I could not scrub off.
