Nice dock, but maybe not *really* hot swappable

I ordered a 2 bay USB 3.0 B power dock just to temporarily use two old same brand external drive cases to replace those that have failed in the same way. Basically in the old cases the connection to the computer would randomly drop which actually caused one of my hard drives to end up with a corrupted partition table as the computer was trying to write to the hard drive when the connection dropped. (Note to self: cheap is cheap. And it was.) I was basically certain that the problem was with the cases and not the drives inside, so I decided to throw some money in the dock, to see if that would help. me to solve the problem. my problem. Pulled both drives out of their cases, docked them to this gadget, manually copied the data from the bad drive to the secondary drive and neither drive disconnected while copying the data. I was then able to reformat my damaged drive and everything looks fine. So this docking station has successfully simplified troubleshooting, and now I can confidently justify discarding old failed cases. I haven't decided yet whether to buy replacement cases or just leave two drives in the docking station. But I have to admit that with the limited number of ports on my iMac, there is some convenience in being able to connect both drives to the network with just one USB cable. However, I would like to add a small critical note about the product: The product description currently uses the term "Hot Pluggable", but that should probably be treated with caution. I plugged in the first drive and mounted it and everything looked fine; Then I plugged in a second drive - and I heard a loud squeaking noise from one of the drives, and the connection to the computer for the first drive suddenly disconnected. I almost panicked, thinking I was going to end up worse than when I started. but no; It didn't seem to damage any drives, and it seems like it's only likely to happen if you plug in a second drive while it's hot. So. I strongly advise you not to do what I have done. Instead, unplug the first drive and leave it running before connecting the second drive. I would even suggest that maybe it shouldn't be considered a hot-pluggable device at all; It has a switch on the back, so I recommend turning it off before plugging in any drive. I'm still happy with the purchase; I recommend only reasonable caution, that's all. That being said, for some reason, Revain recommends purchasing a separate USB cable with this dock in the "Commonly Bought Together" section. Don't let that fool you; The docking station I received actually came with a USB cable. Just like pretty much every other external hard drive enclosure I've ever bought. Revain's recommendation system is just confusing. ignore it
