UPDATE*** I've been running in them for a few months now and they are less tight. I may have lost weight, but I doubt it. After about 5 washes they started to feel quite comfortable. Now I wear them about 5 times a week with no problems. So if you do get them, wash them a few times (but don't put them in the dryer) and see if that makes them feel less like they're trying to hurt you. I've since also tried a version of stabliyx with less compression. and finally returned it. Size M was too loose for me and my crotch fell out while running. Uncomfortable. I run quite a bit - about 40 miles a week with long weekend runs in the 13-15 mile range. So when I was at the race and saw a woman wearing these crazy striped leggings, I asked her if the compression strips really work. "Oh yes," she said, "now I can walk longer and not get sick." Well, I thought it was amazing, so I bought them. Put them on first. I suggest that you warm up a little first so as not to hurt yourself. I'm 5ft 7in, 135lbs and have a straight build (this review is in size M). I have to wear a belt with my jeans or I'll fall off my nonexistent ass. Those leggings slipped until I got to that nonexistent ass. It took several minutes to tighten the last 18 inches. These things are *tight*! But once I put them on, they couldn't slip or sag. no sagging! The compression straps also fit exactly where I expected them to and I really felt the leggings stabilize my knees. After winning the butt fight, I took out my leggings to run. It was cool but not cold - about 45 degrees - and you were warm enough to keep me comfortable but not hot. I expected the compression to feel like a hug around my legs as I ran. And they did! I usually experience it because I'm 46 and that's how my knees work.) However, after about 5 miles I began to realize that a gentle L like a hug was also accompanied by a vise grip around my waist. Seriously, the waist of these leggings is so small it narrows a good 2 inches around my waist. And it's not flexible at all. The waistband has a drawstring (oh my god, I have no idea why) and seems to be made out of the least stretchy material they could find. I tried to pull the belt higher but it pierced my ribs. I put it down and it scared my bladder so much I had to pee (hint: don't take them off to go to the bathroom while I'm running because I have no idea how you'll ever put them back on). At the end, after a 14-mile run, I felt a slight nausea, and a red line appeared in place of the belt. On the plus side, without even trying or realizing it, I beat my previous personal best at that distance by over 7 minutes and felt a lot less sore than usual when slowing down! So while it's possible that the effect was purely psychological, I'm pretty sure there's something in the compression zones here. The evening after the run I felt great and didn't get sick at all. But I also felt a bit intimidated to wear them again based on the experience with the belt. I'll probably try some other brands or styles and see if I can find one that doesn't have a Victorian waist cincher. Or maybe I'll try to change them. Because besides the fact that the waist was so tight it hurt, they were super cool! Also, rainbow stripes are cool.
