Although the lid is easy to remove.

When I bought it, I thought you would have to remove the cover almost every time you adjusted the volume or turned iPod shuffle on or off, but you can press you actually press the keys while wearing the lid. The lid is a pleasant surprise. The cover is easy to remove. It won't fall off when you move the device, but it's very easy to put on and take off. I see that as a plus but I can see it as a minus when used on young children.
