I was excited to get these and try them. I read many reviews on these that recommended going a size up--even a couple that recommended going two sizes up for the right fit. I am a fifty-year-old man, weighing in at 164lbs with a 32 inch waist. I usually wear mediums, went with the reviews that suggested going two sizes up, and ordered XL.They were definitely way too big for me, so if you have an average build like I do, don't order two sizes up! What killed this purchase for me, though, was the fact that the leg openings on these do not have any kind of elastic or tightness to them AT ALL. One crouch to the ground and I had a huge wedgie. I can guarantee you that this will happen every time you do any kind of bending over. I think if I had the right size that I would have found the support in the front to be wonderful and possibly found that the leg openings would have been a little tighter, but I still believe that wedgies would have been in my future. I would not recommend getting these.
