Review on 🏷️ Efficient Labeling with the Brother PT-2600 Labeling System by Mitch Wright

So far so good, but there are a few surprises

This machine works well and is well thought out. It's easy to use, whether via a computer or manually. But it's heavier than I thought (2.5 pounds). And it has an annoying trait: when used with a computer, before a label is printed, it trims the excess blank label by about 1/2 inch. Tech support has reported that all Brother labellers do this (see their full answer below). When you print by hand, there is extra space on your label before and after printing that you can trim by hand. When printing from a computer there is actually an extra blank label that the machine spits out and cuts off before printing the labels. In any case, plan on about an inch of tape for each label, no matter what size label you need. However, being able to print labels on the fly is really cool. I envision a much more orderly environment very soon. I've noticed that some reviewers here and elsewhere complain that the labels are difficult to peel off their backing. This is not the case with the labels that came with my labeller. The backing material is split and comes off very easily. Here is an explanation from Brother Technical Support on oversized labels: PT2600 PS 5100 The distance between the print head and the cutter blade of the P-touch printer is approximately 2.5 cm. The three layers of material that make up all laminated P-touch labels must pass through this space to ensure proper sealing and feeding. Usually a small piece of 1 inch tape is placed in front of the printed label first to ensure this happens. This additional feed cannot be eliminated. However, you can add an extra piece of tape to the printed label instead of cutting it by changing the margin setting to 1 inch. Excess ribbon advance cannot be eliminated.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Communication with seller
