Review on Dorman 697 706 GM Differential Cover: Ultimate Protection for Your Vehicle's Gears by William Obong

Took 5-6 days for delivery which is too long for Prime Delivery. When the part finally arrived, the differential cover mating surfaces (where it connects to the differential case) had a damaged surface with dents and scratches. This is the most important and functional surface of the differential cover and should be mirror smooth. To mention scratches on this surface means it may not fit snugly in the case and will result in differential fluid leakage. The magnetic drain plug insert on this cover was very weak compared to the original cover it replaced Entire inner half of cover around drain plug threads, screw holes and nicks, scratches on cover. All of these surfaces need to be ground and polished to a clean finish so metal fragments can't come loose and swim into your differential. which can lead to catastrophic damage. Mating surfaces and worn metal edges are best sanded and polished before installation, but it wasn't worth restoring and refurbishing a new part. They also installed an old magnet from the cover which I replaced as the one on this one Cover practically does not work give confidence that it will do its job. Overall very disappointed. Expected more of what I thought was a genuine part from a famous brand. There is a suspicion that it could be a Chinese fake or fake. Had to send back but had to install as I needed my truck to work. Installed within a day and still no leaks but will check for leaks every day. Don't buy, choose another.
