Review on πŸ‘Ÿ Unigear Traction Cleats: 18-Spike Ice Snow Grips for Walking, Jogging, Climbing & Hiking - Enhanced Grip & Safety by Marc Gallner

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It looks good, but there was a mini accident during the walk!

These micro spikes seem like a good and sturdy item (loved the little storage bag) but one of the chains broke in the middle of a hike. This was the first major link holding the chain in place. At first I didn't think it mattered much - I still hold on to all the other chains and continued the hike. Then, in a completely unpredictable situation, the broken larger limb caught on another microspike on my left leg (into an S-Link) and I just lost my balance. Almost fell, but sticks for extra support! It saved me from falling down the icy path. I ended up having to remove that part of the link entirely. Otherwise it would be dangerous to continue the campaign in this way. Came home and tried tightening all the other S shaped metal links on the chains to avoid future accidents with a good pair of pliers. This has so far been an unsuccessful attempt. He tells me the metal is strong (good quality) but there is a problem with the design of some links. There is extra clearance near the ends of these S-links which can allow some of the chains to come loose. to the rubber part of the microbolt. Be sure to tighten them BEFORE first use to avoid any unforeseen accidents.

Pros
  • The Heavy Duty Crampons are best in class, with a durable outsole featuring heat-treated stainless steel lugs that dig into the slipperiest ice and snow.
Cons
  • boring packaging
