Review on EZ Pro Beauty Dish Octagon Softbox 36" W/ Speedring For Elinchrom Monolights, Prolinca & BXRi Strobe Flash Light by Alonzo Wilkins

Didn't fit my Photogenic Studio Max III 160 lights

The octobox is strong and well made. The problem is with the metal plate that is the connector to the softbox speedring. They were not compatible with my light. The size of the hole 4" is the same, but my flash has a 90 degree angle inside the opening and the plate that came with the octobox is curved and rounded. I could not get the plate (and the octobox) to fit into the hole of my flash. It's just a little too big. Huge fail! The octobox says it fits the Photogenic Studio Max III lights-that is exactly what I have. My lights are about 10 years old. Not sure if the Studio Max speedring has changed over the years, and if it fits current Studio Max lights, but they didn't fit mine. I took it to my local camera shop and the worker was able to take pliers and bend the plate just enough so that it does now fit. It's not perfect, but I am able to use the softboxes now. It was really frustrating. The softbox itself is rigid and strong-well made. That is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. There is no way in the world I can close it with my bare hands. In theory, it is like a regular umbrella where you push a small piece of metal to release the pressure and it collapses. The metal does not move. Both my husband and I could not close it by pushing with our thumbs. It takes needle-nose pliers to close it. Then when it does collapse, it's like an airsoft gun. LOUD and FAST. Scares me when it pops closed. I hope you have better luck than I did with this softbox.
