Review on πŸ“Ά Astatic (302-PDC2) Black SWR/RF/Field Strength Test Meter: High Accuracy for Optimal Signal Performance by Nicole Scheibler

Works but has RF issues

I bought this for use in a mobile RF setup. This works for the most part, but the SWR meter on the right "jams" when the needle swerves to the left past 0 when removing the key, and I have to press on the box to pull it off and bring it back to 0 . I use this to tune my screwdriver antenna to different areas. Finding the minimum SWR is fine, but I don't trust the actual reading as it's lower than what my MFJ antenna analyzer shows. Radio output power, then reverse (REV) to read the SWR; I'm surprised others have complained about this as almost every SWR meter works this way. The power meter on the left doesn't appear to be linear; it reads about halfway regardless of actual radio power and I can run from 5 to 100 watts. It changes slightly as you tune the SWR, with maximum power deviating around the lowest SWR, so you can use it with an SWR meter to roughly tune your antenna (get maximum power with minimum SWR). more indicator than meter; This indicates a change in SWR as you tune the antenna and it indicates the power is coming out of the setup when you press the button. However, none of the actual values can be trusted and I would use extremely low power during the initial setup so as not to fry the power amp in a solid state setup.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Security
