The reason I wanted to change antennas in the first place is because I don't need an AM/FM antenna at all. I only listen to XM Radio. (More than 20 years ago. They named a satellite after me. I'm NOT criticizing this at all, I'm just giving you some additional enlightenment: radio antennas are a certain length for a reason. Length is what "tunes" the antenna to receive certain radio bands (FM AM etc.). So. In fact, a short antenna may not pick up your normal radio channels very well, if at all. You will find that you can no longer receive many programs that you used with your old antenna. This does NOT mean that the antenna, this or any other short replacement is defective. It just can't work as well as an antenna cut to the right length. At the same time, radio is now broadcasting in digital format as well as old-school analogue format. For the most part, these shorter antennas received digital signals very well. You may see the opposite of what you are hearing now if there are many digital channels in your area. They are better suited where their analog counterparts may not fit at all. And as I mentioned above, you can see a significant difference when it comes to replacing a hood lip or a side pillar antenna.
