As someone who burns quite a lot of DVDs and CDs, I often find myself deleting all the burners pretty quickly. In my experience, optical burning usually starts off badly on a dual-layer DVD. In Descending Order of Frequency Other recorders suffer from a gremlin in the drawer mechanism that prevents them from working properly. And fewer drives will have some sort of electronic gremlin that prevents the drive from recognizing and playing either a good disc or a blank disc. it's useless for anything other than a paperweight. Historically, Plextor drives have been the standard that other drives aspired to in terms of design, quality standards, and the quality of the finished discs. Unfortunately, they were bought out and are now shells of their former selves. The last Plextor I bought was DOA. I'm willing to pay a little more for something durable, and this drive fits the bill. LEDs tend to suffer when they get too hot, and an extra heat sink could well keep the element running for long periods of time. My first burn was a dual layer disc, which it did flawlessly. Also, the mechanism works well and seems durable. I will update if it fails prematurely.
