This is the second of two iterations of this design that I have purchased. Well done, keeps the tank in the back of the truck and acts as a backup on the way to a gas station. I see this device as a way to solve the safety issue with my propane cylinders. The other type I bought was the Tank Foot which replaced the Tank Foot which eventually failed. This one is made of a heavier material, slightly "thicker" around the rim of the tank and holds tighter than the base of the tank - I had to use a lot of pressure to place the tank on this base. I haven't tried leaving it in place when I put the tank on the grill, but I don't see any problems here. Although the tank hangs on the side of my Weber instead of sitting in a well or hole in the bottom of the grill like some do. If so, you'll probably need to take it off before using the tank, and like I said, it holds tight. I removed the tank from this base without much effort - I think it's lighter on the outside than on the inside - so I don't see any disadvantages and a big plus in terms of safety.
