I bought these gloves a few days before the snow storm because I knew my son wanted to have a snowball fight. I took a chance because they had some bad reviews. The first thing I did when I got them was hold them under running water while my hand (or part of it) was gloved. My hand didn't get wet BUT the black part (we bought the red ones) got wet, the black material feels like faux suede and doesn't feel water repellent although again my hand didn't get wet. I bought a 2-4 side for my 3 year old and these gloves are huge, I could fit half my hand in them (although I have skinny hands). My toddler was able to figure out how to stick his thumb out, I pulled the gloves all the way around his wrist and pulled the jacket over them. My son hated that feeling but agreed to leave her. He went out and played in the snow for about half an hour, when he came back his hands were dry and warm and strangely the gloves didn't feel particularly wet. So far so good, I'll let you know if anything changes.
