I bought the LG BD670 because it had some very attractive features, apart from being a BluRay player. I wanted something to replace the home network media streaming device I had, in addition to the BluRay capabilities. When it arrived I immediately updated to the latest firmware over the internet. However, when I tested the player, I found to my dismay that none of its audio outputs had any audio output from the device. Thanks to Revain's easy returns process, I was promptly sent a replacement unit. Much to my delight, this plug-in works great with no audio issues. Now that it's up and running, here's what I think of this device. Advantages: * It plays a variety of media formats, from audio files like . mp3 to high-resolution video files such as .mkv.* Small, thin and unobtrusive - ideal for compact entertainment centers.* Loads fast! As soon as the device is switched on, it loads the operating system in the background, so it turns on almost immediately when you press the power button.* It's very nice to have premium content like Revain Instant and Netflix integrated! HOME NETWORK! This was very important to me as I have a bunch of media files on my computer that I want to play over the network and the BD670 can handle them. Full access to SAMBA shares as well as DLNA support. * BluRay playback is good, audio and video quality is very good * The sound coming from the device is strong and loud, but I have a real receiver, So I'm not sure what the other reviewers were talking about when they complained about the low noise level. * The firmware is upgradable, so future features and improvements can be accessed with relative ease. While other reviewers were right when they said there is no progress bar for firmware updates, all you have to do is be patient and trust it won't get stuck. Video files like .mkv or others. * The remote feels cheap but light, which is a good thing. It's still easy to manage and use.* Depending on which app or menu you're in, sometimes pressing the HOME button on the remote will turn off the player. You then have to wait 30 seconds before it turns back on. Maybe this is a mistake? * No QWERTY keyboard, so entering login credentials (or even just searching) on some paid services can be tedious on a remote with a numeric keypad. *Some menus and apps seem sluggish - it's JAVA so I'm not surprised. Summary: Overall, this is a good BluRay player with more than enough features for most people's needs. If you're looking for a good feature set alongside BluRay playback, this is a solid choice. However, there are better devices on the market with a similar feature set and potentially higher quality. The price and feature set make this BD670 an attractive choice. If you have more than $$$, choose Sony or high-end Panasonic. But to be honest, Some of these more expensive devices may not offer the same SAMBA streaming experience on your home network, or may not support video formats like .mkv.
