I am a home brewer and bought these Gamma Seal lids to use on the buckets I use to brew beer. When I first received them my first impression was that they looked like a well designed, well made product. From that moment everything went downhill. Before installing the covers, I took out the first block and inspected it. I noticed that there was a slit on the seal, but since it was slit it probably wouldn't affect the sealability. I put the cap on the ring to check it out. I jammed it and then I couldn't get the lid off! It was so tight that I had to strain to remove the lid. I tried the same with the second block, same result, the lid was very tight. Both have broken down over time. Then I installed one on the bucket. When you read about these lids online, proper installation is critical. I used a rubber mallet to attach the ring to the bucket. It installed correctly. I figured a good leak test would be to fill the bucket with a couple of quarts of water and dish soap since I needed to clean the bucket anyway. I tightened the lid and it leaked! Not just a few drops, it was a stream of water. And he went between the lid and the ring, not between the bucket and the ring. The bucket made a perfect seal on the ring. So I tightened the lid a bit. Nonetheless, it leaked. And again not a few drops, but a jet! So I tightened it a bit, thinking it shouldn't be tight, and it was still leaking. I decided something was wrong so I went to remove the cover. I tried so hard I put my thumb on my left hand! Luckily my thumb is back in the joint. And I'm a big guy, so it's not like I have tiny weak hands. I ended up having to remove the cover with a rubber mallet! Annoyed that the lid wouldn't close, I wanted to take it off. Well, a regular bucket lid wrench DOESN'T WORK, and even my biggest flathead screwdriver couldn't get it loose. Great, now that bucket is ruined. I had to use a HACKSAW to get the ring off the bucket! So I got two other caps. In order not to DESTROY another bucket, I decided to test them myself. I put the lid on the ring and put the lid under the faucet. BOTH LEAKED! And again, not a little, but a STREAM of water flowed out of them, so all three lids leaked in total, I broke a good quality bucket and dislocated my thumb, which still hurts a lot. I cannot recommend these lids! I am very disappointed given the positive reviews. If I didn't have to cut ONE with a hacksaw, they would have come back. $32 wasted!
