So measurements given are general measurements including grill tabs. The actual size of the grill drum is 6.75" x 4.5". I really wanted it to be an 8 inch cylinder length but. Otherwise the materials used are much better than expected as it is very strong and not brittle as expected. There are no screws, just welds on the latches, hinges, and mounting lugs. I've never used a bar like this and was skeptical, but it also seems solid. A pretty clever design uses properly shaped, twisted ends that hold everything together tightly. Only a small portion of the internal mixing shelf is visible in the photos, which helps to mix and rotate the content. The mixing shelf measures approximately 1" x 5.75" and occupies 85% of the interior length, leaving an open gap at each end. Coffee beans get stuck between the end of the shelf and the end caps and burn. I have to pick and drop, but overall I'm happy with this roaster. It is suitable for my first experiences with roasting coffee beans. So far I've only roasted .25 pounds at a time during this trial period, but . 5 kg shouldn't be a problem.
