There are triangular tear strips on both sides of the cap so you can peel off the packaging, but the plastic is so brittle and the triangular tear strip at the bottom so narrow that the strips always break halfway. every time. You then have to deal with the plastic breaking down into large, small and tiny bits that stand on top of what you're standing over before you can finally unscrew the lid. Almost enough to keep me from buying it again. But it has more protein, more calories, and tastes better than another brand I've tried before (for the same money), so I'll probably buy more. just know Added later: I bought more of this product. Opening the top is the same problem, but the easy fix is to simply use a serrated knife to cut the plastic covering around the bottom of the cover. Don't try to open it with those ridiculous retractable strips!
