The brush itself has good bristle stiffness for sweeping things into the pot and you can't tell from the photo, but the shelf is deeper than you might think. I think it's about 3/4" deep so it can hold quite a bit of debris. A side or corner shot would help show this. However, the problem with storage is that the broom closes them like almost holds all other pans and brooms on the market together This means you have to put it away when it's lying flat instead of getting up and leaning it against a cupboard If you try to remove it vertically the broom just falls out of the pot I would don't buy it if i knew.
