Center Console Trivia

2002 Chevy Avalanche 1500 Looks good, fits well, works well. As others have said, refer to the online video for installation as there are no instructions or literature in the box. Some tutorial videos show how to remove the console and do this repair on a workbench. I do not know why. With the console installed, there is ample access. Note the orientation of the metal U-bracket. It has a direction so the details are aligned. Little things: There is foam padding on the front of the latch. The original pillow is molded and more like closed cell foam. The pad in this part is thicker, has no contour, and looks like it might shed foam with use. I transferred the original pad to the new part using double sided tape. The new part has a recess on the underside, probably for storing cards. But the original part has a rubber band to hold the cards in place but the new one doesn't. You can't transfer it because the new part is missing two slots to transfer the band. Who still uses cards? I'm just trying to be complete. I want them to fix the mistakes in the original design. that would be easy to do. The metal U channel is held in place by two plastic clips. They are the weak link, they break off under stress. If they changed the shape to get more reinforcement, it would make the product more durable. I don't actually use this storage at all, I swapped it out because I have mild OCD and the outer padding was cracked, so for me it was more of an aesthetic choice. However, you can apply a little epoxy to the bracket before installation, then the repair will be more durable. I might go back and do it someday when I'm mixing epoxy for another project. Those are secondary things. If you're restoring a 2000 Chevy truck to not 100% original (why?) then that's fine and great value for money indeed. a simple screwdriver or bread knife. You'll need a small hammer and some sort of hammer drill or screwdriver to hammer in the pivot rod. Watch the video and join. It's a 10 minute deal, slightly longer if you want to move the foam pad and support the U channel.
