When the handle becomes stiff or the hot/cold water setting is difficult to adjust, the cartridge usually needs to be replaced. I have replaced all PosiTemp shower grips with 1222 with good results. "B" simply means it was part of a contractor's package, not an individual sale. You will receive all the same parts in a "B" package. I highly recommend using a cartridge remover as it can be quite difficult to remove an existing cartridge after it has been in a faucet for years. The block I received was leaked. all the silicone before it arrived but I was able to use silicone pool grease on the rubber parts.
