Review on 🎧 TROND External USB Audio Adapter Sound Card – 3.5mm Aux TRRS Jack, Integrated Audio Out & Microphone In by Bob Kussmaul

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The microphone input is unusable for me. I would return it if I didn't break it.

It works well for audio output, but the microphone input doesn't have the expected gain control range. My headset has a dynamic mic so the volume may be lower than a regular headset with an electret mic, but the same headset works fine with regular laptop audio jacks. Clip even by creating a loop connection from output to input. I expected that from a line in, not a mic in. It looks like the device I received does not contain the advertised C-Media HS-100B chip. The data sheet for the HS-100B states that it is a 48-pin package. Instead, this device has a 28-pin chip labeled "NV8308A"; The search does not return any useful information. UPDATE: Support contacted me and sent me another model, but the replacement didn't work with my headset either. It can work well with other headphones, but I can't comment on that.
