Review on πŸ‘Ÿ Optimized Brooks Men's Glycerin Black Ebony Athletic Shoes for Men by Chris Pettway

Revainrating 2 out of 5

LOVE these shoes - just remember to break them and your feet in before you go out.

Finally I decided to give up a pair of New Balance that were probably 10 years old. I took a break from running for a while so they weren't used all the time, but now that I'm running again they could be replaced. After lots of personal recommendations and online research I settled on these Brooks Glycerin 17. I was very hesitant to buy the shoe without trying it on first but due to Revain's excellent return policy I decided I had nothing to lose. Preface to what was said below - I'm in my early 40's and have a heavy build. Not fat but rather muscular/husky and definitely not a prototype runner's body. So I need all the support and comfort I can get. I also need to take care of my knees and shins after my shin splints (which is why I fell off the track many years ago). I unpacked the shoes and was so excited to try them out that I immediately sent them in for a 1.5 mile run. They weren't very comfortable and after a few days I had severe lower leg and ankle pain. I tried again for another 1.5 miles and still felt a little uncomfortable but it eased up. That's when I realized I had to break down my shoes and feet before training them. So before I run in them again I put them on for about 8-10 miles, run around for a few workouts and they fit my feet better and my feet are more used to these boots than regular ones. the old NB they are used to. I guess it's like every shoe change, I just didn't think to do it before. I returned a few days later for 1.5 miles and felt great. I've been slowly increasing my distances each week and now I'm feeling great at about 6 weeks at about 3.5 miles. I LOVE THESE SHOES! Very comfortable and supportive even with that aging body. I have a normal width despite a slightly wider foot and they still allow for a bit of flex and a bit of swelling without constricting.
