Review on πŸ”Œ 6-Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip with 8-Foot Extension Cord - Black, ETL Listed/UL Standard by Mark Harris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Beware! Accessories and consumables

I bought it because of the thick 14AWG cable it uses. It worked fine for a couple of months, then the switch went off by itself - even with no power. After several such episodes, the switch became very sensitive; If a mosquito landed on it, it would turn itself off (perhaps an exaggeration, but not by much). I opened it up (it's screwed on) and couldn't believe the flimsy, cheap wiring powering the outlets. Wire connectors are randomly spot welded to their terminals, creating questionable connections. Hard to believe it passed UL testing. I cut the wire, threw the outlet block in the trash (where it belongs) and connected a series of industrial grade outlets in a steel electrical box. In short, the cable and connector assembly was the only usable part. Don't be fooled by the "heavy duty" rating - these are anything but heavy duty devices. FWIW, I'm a retired electrical engineer and I know a thing or two about how safe electrical equipment should be designed. It's definitely not one of them. Dan
